Much Ado About Nothing
With the ambitious Much Ado About Nothing, Michael Comlish explored
the darker aspects of the play that scholars like Ted Hughes and Harold Bloom
have pointed to. He cast the pundit Andrew Sullivan as Benedick,
and focused on the issues of marriage an nihilism found in the title. The production,
which was very controversial in the press post-911, was set in three distinct
spaces at the sprawling Clark Street Theater across from the Pentagon. The
production was highlighted in The New Yorker Talk of the Town section.
