Michael Joseph Comlish is a New York City director, producer, and writer, who experiments with breaking through formal barriers of visual and performing arts. He explores opposition and conflict within the mind, and how that extends to relationships, political systems, and philosophical constructs. His work often involves innovative use of space.

His work has been featured in the New York Guggenheim Museum's Works and Process series, and he has served as producing director as well as associate producer for American Opera Projects since 1999. He is formerly from the Washington, DC area and an early member of Washington Shakespeare Company.
